TERRACED HOUSE – ZEJTUN

About This Project

Located in the outskirts of Zejtun, the renovation of this charming Terraced House has been one of our most ambitious projects to date. This gem of a building comprises of two floors including an open plan area which leads to an extensive outdoor patio, adjacent to a family owned field.

The initial task assigned was to re-design the mentioned open plan area and to give the family ideas on how to re-plan this part of the house. Having met the family of four, I was aware of their need for functionality, their taste and style.  After some time on the drawing board, designs flowed easily and after proposing my ideas, the clients decided to extend our terms to include the full design of the whole house including the finishes and services.

The project included several structural alterations in order to accommodate the family’s daily needs. Professional tradesmen were sourced out and engaged to work on the electrical and plumbing systems, plastering, gypsum and other finishing works.

Flexibility in our line of work is essential especially when working with families with children. In this case, the client wanted to include the children’s bedroom furniture and study pieces from their previous residence.  The client also decided to retain some of the features the house including the main marble staircase and the timber moulded railing. This was taken into consideration at the design stage and the necessary restorative works were carried out.

The concept behind the designs, as agreed with the client, was to give the Terraced House a more contemporary feel. The blending of traditional and modern in this project was enhanced with the use of hand-picked dark wood pieces with elaborate cast ironwork along the hallway, complementing the traditional feel of a Maltese household. A more modern approach was developed in the kitchen where hues of grey, brown, black where blended together with dark wood. This merged harmoniously with the bespoke television unit.
